Hello Friends, it is so nice to be back with you all. While traveling is one of my biggest passions, Columbus has my heart. When I was in high school I was certain that I was going to go to far off lands for college- I did NOT want to go to OSU- I waited until the last possible day to choose my acceptance. Jokes on me (as it usually is). 8 years after that decision- holy moly I am old- I am OBSESSED with The Ohio State University. After I graduated college, the goal was to find a job in a far off land- jokes on me again (God thinks he is hilarious) and I landed the most amazing career at Flying Horse Farms (my biggest passion). So while my roots are firmly planted in Columbus I spend most of my weekends traveling, which has earned me the nickname PTOlive. As much as I love setting off on an adventure, I love when I land back at Port Columbus. My people live here, I have grown up here, this is where my tribe is- Columbus till I die.
Columbus is a bustling foodie town. I love eating out so much- trying a new restaurant / dish and sharing a meal with friends are a few of my favorite things. So much so that our CEO recently asked if I ever eat at home- the truth is not much. I wanted to share some of my favorite eats over the past three months with you all.
North Star Café
I hope most people have had the opportunity to eat here- even my Dad has made it here. In my mind if Doug Miller has eaten here then everyone should have! I love brunch- like truly, madly deeply- and North Star has never let me down. My old stand by order is their Breakfast Sandwich (add sausage). My mom refers to this as “The Most Expensive Breakfast Sandwich In The Entire World” but let me tell you- it is so worth it. I was finally brave enough to branch out and ordered the Poached Eggs and Prosciutto and Lord was it tasty! Foccacia bread is my love language and this one is darn good! With poached eggs, focaccia, arugula and prosciutto- how could you go wrong?! Not only is their food amazing but their drinks are out of this world- Ginger ale, fresh pressed juices and mint iced coffee (oh my!). North Star is on the pricey side but with fresh, stellar eats and excellent service- in my books it is well worth it.
You guys- you have to go here! Like for real, for real. It is fast casual Japanese Ramen- but super super legit. Not only can you slurp up delicious bowls of ramen broth and noodles (I’ve ordered the Signature Tonkotsu both times I have gone), but their small plates are fun and extra yummy. My favorite is the Pork Belly Rice. The first time I went was with my Mom on a blistery cold day. We shared a bowl of Ramen and two small plates and it was so fun! The staff was so kind and the soup warmed my bones. I highly recommend stopping in. Delicious food, beer on tap and a new experience- 5 stars!
Wolf’s Ridge Brewing
So back to brunch. I had heard a lot about Wolf’s Ridge’s brunch but I finally got to experience it for myself- and it was perfect! A fellow lover of brunch and I got there and sat at the bar- I ordered their Bloody Maria and it was everything I want my breakfast cocktail to be! (They know what they are doing there when it comes to their drinks). When I asked the bartender what he recommended he did not hesitate- “Toad in the Hole”- when someone answers with that sort of conviction you do not question- you simply order. He was right- it has all the brunch essentials – Brioche (like come on- how can anything with brioche be bad?), a runny yolk egg in the center, fingerling potatoes, bacon, porter cheese sauce and maple syrup! (My mouth is watering just describing the ingredients). The bacon was perfection and the whole experience in general was just so enjoyable- definitely a must try for brunch- I know I will be back… soon!
The Roosevelt Coffeehouse
I seem to do my best thinking while here. I <3 their iced
lattes and Instagram-able décor. The coffee is superb and the atmosphere is easy and welcoming- free wifi, friendly baristas and a record player (aren’t places with record players just the coolest?) It’s a great place to get work done, for a date or to visit with a friend.
Columbus has my heart and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Where are your favorite spots in Columbus? Tell me about them in the comments section. Happy exploring and eating! <3
