Not only are we one month closer to summer but the body reset is now officially over. I learned so much about myself over these past four weeks. I learned that vegetables are God’s gift to earth, dates / cauliflower / pomegranates / blueberries / and ginger are some of my favorite foods, almond milk lattes are bae and things with sugar / dairy / gluten / soy trick our bodies!
When I was eating my clean meals, it was very easy to figure out when my body was full- no one is going to eat serving after serving of broccoli- but when my meal was over I was almost sad.
When we pile our plates with sugary or fried foods we get a rush of excitement while eating- so we continue to eat more and more. Eliminating those “fun” foods eliminated the “rush” to my brain while I was eating. Food is something I take very seriously so this was perplexing- I was used to feeling happy and satisfied at the end of a meal, but during the reset I was just sad that I was full. I am trying to figure out how to make meal time more fun. I think it starts with presentation- colorful veggies, fun plates, even flowers on the table! How do you all make your meal time fun?
I feel so good when eating clean- it makes me wonder why I would go back to my past eating habits.
And then I remember my old friends- cheese, wine and bread. What I am coming to learn is that there has to be a balance. I feel like my life gets most out of balance when I am not taking good care of myself. A packed schedule leads to more meals out, no time to cook, not enough sleep and an overall sense of being frazzled. I love eating out with friends but over and over again I am learning the importance of a home cooked meal. Not only do you have control over the ingredients and their quality but it is definitely good for your soul.
I have also made another revelation over the past week- I have a dairy sensitivity… and for me, right now, this is devastating.
I added some half and half into my coffee, to test out dairy in my system, and within minutes my ears started itching, my stomach started rolling, and I sneezed about 5 times. Since I started in January my all-year seasonal allergies and migraines have subsided. So now I have to face the biggest dilemma of my life. Does the sacrifice of cheese outweigh my migraines & allergies? The answer is a resounding “YES” but it will take some time getting used to.
This reset has been an amazing experience.
I gained a diet that I know makes me feel awesome and a network of friends who care about health, self love and coffee. Thanks to an awesome friend / role model I have gained a new life motto of striving for “Grace not perfection”. When I am deciding what to eat at meals, I am going to ask myself what is going to bring me joy and help me to feel my best? Sometimes the answer will be a green smoothie, or a salad loaded with all the toppings, and other times it will be Jet’s pizza! It’s all about balance friends!
Here has been my favorite Green Smoothie throughout the cleanse: Oh She Glows Green Warrior Protein Smoothie — don’t be scared by the ingredient list you probably have all the ingredients at home already // *I use spinach instead of kale and oranges instead of grapefruit and no algae oil*
